My challenge today is for you to forget the list of New Year’s Resolutions. You may have noticed that I haven’t posted one here– not because I don’t have all sorts of things I Want To Accomplish but because there are just too many and meanwhile I can’t even manage to feed the children lunch.
Instead I want to focus on the little thing that you accomplished this week that no one else will see. No one will notice, but it just might be the lynchpin in your week.
Mine is using my foam roll. (See the little bite marks on it from a toddler who thought it looked delicious? That was probably seven years ago.)
That blue foam roll is the bane of my existence. It’s a physical therapy tool for my IT band, and it really hurts. But using it regularly is the difference for me between happy runs, and my ongoing cycle of increasing mileage until I can’t walk and then backing off until none of my runs actually do anything for my mental health, and then beginning slowly to increase again.
Using my foam roller every day has made the difference between 30 miles a month and 40 miles a month. Side bonus: when I roll my IT bands out every day, it doesn’t hurt nearly as much to do so.
