Sewing with Little Ones

I think “sewing” means different things to different ones of us.  To SweetP, it means cutting holes in fabric and sewing stuff together until she’s done.  What is the end project? Your guess is as good as mine, but it can still be wrapped (see above gift bag being wrapped in paper) and given to a stuffed animal she hopes to receive for her birthday. In three months.

I wish I were better at letting go of my preconceived notion of what sewing has to be– wash, iron, plan, cut… before we ever get to the fun part– so she could just enjoy it. This one day, I did, and she was happy as a clam. So was I, because between her ventures with the sewing machine, I was able to piece a quilt top.

Any advice for me? How do you practice your own creative endeavor in the midst of theirs?
