Every time I take the kids for a hike, I think, why don’t we do this more often? They play so beautifully here. They run and dance and skip and laugh, and none of it makes any mess in my house.
Granted, I have these really amazing Rocky Mountains a short drive away, and it recharges me every time I go.
The reality is, it’s a lot of work to get four kids into the car with water bottles, snacks, appropriate footwear, hats, and sunblock. Meanwhile, there’s laundry to do.
Our mountain time (hiking, camping, sailing, walking, visiting) is always stacked towards the end of the summer. And then I think, “It’s almost too late– I should have started this in April!”
So here’s to next year: beginning with hikes in April. Camping in June. And as much mountain-time as I can fit in.
I like your start-in-April plan!
